The four-stage framework: Spark, Insight, Struggle, Commitment

The Hero’s Journey gives us the underlying movement. For a founder’s Origin Story, I reduce it to four stages: Spark, Insight, Struggle, Commitment. As we go through each one, watch it map onto the Hero’s Journey you just saw, because that is exactly what it is, the same shape, rebuilt as something you can write from. Three of these four will feel familiar. One of them is new, and it is the one most founders miss.

And before we annotate Clara, one thing worth saying plainly: this structure is not Clara’s. These four stages are a reliable structure underneath very different founding stories, in any industry at all. A fintech founder, a hardware founder, a founder of something that does not exist yet, the Spark, the Insight, the Struggle, the Commitment hold across all of them. That is why the framework works for yours.

Four stages. Spark, Insight, Struggle, Commitment. That is the structure. Everything else is detail cut from the deep version. In the exercise coming up in Lesson 2.4, you will write the full private deep version using these four stages as your guide. But first, a short and important detour for anyone who feels they do not have a story yet.
