The Hero’s Journey as the structural foundation
Many memorable founding stories share the same underlying movement: a person changed by something they could not ignore.
Joseph Campbell gave one version of it a name in 1949, the Hero’s Journey. He compared myths from many cultures and argued that a common pattern of departure, ordeal and return runs through them. Scholars still dispute how universal that pattern is, and this course does not need it to be universal. It is a useful comparative model of transformation stories, and for founders it maps the movement well.
Treat it as a map of how a change story is usually told, which is why something feels missing when a part of it is absent. Here are the elements that matter for the Origin Story.
