The deep version principle
In 1.1 you opened the private source behind my ninety-second version. This is the name for it. I call it the deep version.
Everything in this course rests on one principle, and instead of explaining it, I want you to see it.
Here is a sentence from a deployed origin story. The kind of line that ends up on an About page.
After seven years in conventional land management, I realised the industry I served was part of the problem, and I left to build the alternative.
Clean. True. Forgettable in the way most true sentences are.
Now here are a few lines from the private layer underneath it, taken word for word from the document you will read in full before you write your own. This is what the deep version actually sounds like.
I keep telling people the skylark mattered, and it did, but it is not the first thing I felt. The first thing I felt was arithmetic. And underneath that, a thing I have never said in a meeting: I did not know whether I was more afraid of the land dying, or of being the person who watched it die and said nothing. Part of why I left was conviction. Part of it was that I could not face writing one more report, and I do not usually say that second part out loud.
