Why your story is not landing

Let me describe what is probably happening with your current story. I am going to give you five symptoms. Count yours as we go, the number matters in a minute.

How many of those landed? Two is normal. Three is common. Four or five means you have been doing what most smart people do: throwing better words at a problem that is not a word problem.

And if none of them landed because you have not written anything yet, because the company is weeks old or still an idea, then I want you to hear this clearly and early: you are not behind. You are not missing five stories. The story you need most has already happened to you, you simply have not written it down. We will come to that directly, and the framework was built with you in mind as much as anyone.

Because here is the actual diagnosis, and it connects all of this. These are not communication problems. They are not structure problems. They are depth problems. Every one of those symptoms comes from the same cause: people try to build public-facing narrative before the private foundation exists.

Think about a sculptor who builds a figure by gluing together fragments, an arm from here, a face from somewhere else. From a distance it can look like a person. Up close, something is off. Everyone senses it, even when they cannot say what. That is what assembled narrative feels like. And it is what most business storytelling is: fragments put together under pressure, for different audiences, on different days, with nothing solid underneath any of them.
