Evidence in the middle, meaning at the end

If you take one thing from this whole course, take the order. Evidence in the middle. Meaning at the end.

Tomas’s masterclass, and the peak-end rule

Tomas, one of the founders in the book, tells the sharpest Impact Story I know, and the thing to study is the ordering. He gives the numbers first, because numbers prove the product works. Then he gives a single human sentence, because the sentence proves why it matters. And he ends there, on the meaning, because of something psychologists call the peak-end rule. In studies of simple experiences, people’s memory of the whole leaned heavily on its most intense moment and its ending. It is a tendency, weaker for long and varied experiences, and here it works as a design rule. Endings carry weight. The ending is what the room keeps. So if you end on a metric, the room keeps a number, and a number is not a reason to act. If you end on meaning, the room keeps the meaning.
